4. How Do We Store Your Data and What Is Their Retention Period?

Our company securely stores your data on WordPress, which uses a MySQL database to store all user information. Here are the main tables involved:

  • wp_users:

    This table contains basic user information, such as their ID, username (user_login), password (user_pass, which is hashed), email address (user_email), registration date (user_registered), etc.

  • wp_usermeta:

    This table stores additional information about users in key-value pairs (meta_key and meta_value). It is used for data such as user preferences, custom roles, and other specific metadata.

The data is secured by:

  • Secure Hashing: WordPress uses the wp_hash_password function to hash passwords before storing them in the database. This means that passwords are never stored in plain text, making it much harder for an attacker to retrieve them in case of a database compromise.
  • Robust Hashing Algorithms: WordPress uses robust and salted hashing algorithms (e.g., bcrypt) to ensure password security.
  • Roles and Capabilities System: WordPress implements a roles and capabilities system that limits the actions users can perform on the site. For example, subscribers have limited permissions compared to administrators, minimizing the risk of unauthorized changes.
  • Automatic Updates: WordPress allows automatic updates for minor versions, ensuring that sites quickly receive security patches.
  • HTTPS/SSL: Using an SSL certificate ensures that data transmitted between the user and the server is encrypted.
  • File Permissions: File and directory permissions (e.g., 644 for files and 755 for directories) prevent unauthorized access.
  • Data Validation and Escaping: Theme and plugin developers must always validate and escape data to prevent XSS (Cross-Site Scripting) attacks and SQL injections.
  • WordPress Nonces: Using nonces to verify requests and prevent CSRF (Cross-Site Request Forgery) attacks.

Our company will retain your cookie data and the data from section 3 of our terms of use for 365 days. Once this period has expired, we will delete your data in an automated manner.
